“No” is Not Always the Answer

Last week’s No Filter Newsletter was all about saying “no”. Specifically, I shared five good reasons we should say no instead of saying yes.

But don’t get me wrong - I love saying yes! Especially when God places an opportunity in front of me that is for His glory and the good of others.

So let’s counterweigh all that heavy “no” advice with a few good reasons you should or could say “yes”:

1. You can say “yes” if you’re accessing God-given desire.

Sometimes we’re scared of saying yes because we believe the lie that if we want something, it must be selfish or prideful. Use the “good and the glory” check. Does this thing you want to do serve others? Does it bring God glory? If so, you’re probably safe to say “yes”.

2. You can say “yes” if taking a step forward will help bring you discernment.

Not sure if it’s the absolute “right” thing? My friend Caroline says, “God doesn’t bless perfect choices, He blesses faithfulness.” You’re safe to take a step forward to SEE if the option in front of you is a good fit. Sometimes waiting won’t bring the same clarity that action will.

3. You can say “yes” if you’ve been praying for an opportunity similar to what’s presented to you.

Have you ever prayed and hoped and begged God for some sort of movement, and once there was an option in front of you… wondered, “Is this it?” Only the Holy Spirit can give you 100% clarity and confidence to say “yes”, but as your friend I want to remind you: if you’ve been waiting and praying for it, and an opportunity is presented, you can take the leap.

I bless you in all of your faithful answers of “no” and all of your courageous replies of “yes”.

God is mighty in you,

Jess
